| 概要 | Most TESOL and Applied Linguistics research uses quantitative research approaches (surveys, statistical data analyses, experiments.) There is another research approach, called qualitative research, that could be used far more widely to produce new and unexpected insights. This presentation outlined the main differences between qualitative and quantitative research approaches and their strengths and drawbacks. The author then explained the kinds of research projects in which she has found that interviews and focus groups produce unexpected and highly useful data. Next, she offered practical advice on how to undertake a qualitative research project, especially a project that is based on interviewing research subjects individually, in pairs, or in focus groups. Finally, the author provided advice on how to analyze data and write a paper based on the research findings. |
