概要 This presentation explained the different stages of building an extensive reading program for English majors for first year students only to a program for first and second year English majors that was integrated into required English language skills classes. In the early stages in 1987, junior fiction was read in class and students wrote summaries for each book they read. The program was expanded by Thomas Robb when the curriculum changed in 2000 and more money was invested in buying graded readers for the library and software called Accelerated Reader from Renaissance Learning. Students read graded readers and junior fiction as homework and took online quizzes in the lunch break (so that they could be monitored by teachers.) The students were able to read considerably more over the two years of the program than they had in just one year.
