| 概要 | Who, what and why are animate and inanimate things seen as "kawaii" by Japanese young people? What are the positive and negative connotations of "kawaii"? And how have these connotations changed over the last forty years? This presentation explained the origins of the expression "kawaii" and the ways in which young Japanese people apply this term to a wide range of people and objects based on findings from focus group work by the presenter. Special attention will be paid to the characteristics that designate both males and females as "kawaii" to contribute to the discussion of expanding gender. |
