概要 This report summarized the dynamic and informative presentation given by this multilingual speaker, scholar, and parent. He wanted us to appreciate that language teachers as well as parents of mixed race children need to be aware of bilingualism because we are preparing our students to become increasingly bilingual and bicultural. The focus of the presentation was therefore on individual bilingualism, not societal bilingualism. Fantini drew attention to the characteristics of bilinguals and emphasized that bilingualism involves knowing how to behave as well as speak in both languages. He also made the wise observation that parents cannot know how successful they have been in raising their children bilingually until their children reach adulthood and inform them.
