| 概要 | The formation of mediopassive verbs in Hittite is, in general, transparent, but there are some 3sg. mediopassives that show idiosyncratic features which are hard to understand from a synchronic point of view. This paper discusses four mediopassives, lag (a) over bar ittari, ishuuaittat, siiettari, and lahuttari. As a result of philological and linguistic analyses of the relevant forms, it has become clear that the irregularities found in them are not archaic but have been secondarily created relatively late within the inner history of Hittite. These irregular verbs should be regarded as medialized forms with the productive mediopassive 3sg. ending -ttari (present) or -ttat (preterite) added to the corresponding active 3sg. |
