概要 | This article alerts teachers to the dangers of letting their "fast thinking" brain negatively impact the impartiality of their evaluation of students' work. “Fast thinking” is the intuitive thinking we do all the time, non-stop. It operates quickly and automatically, with little or no effort and no sense of voluntary control. “Slow thinking” is deliberate and effortful thinking which drains our mental and physical energy resources. Fast thinking generates a view of the world that is simpler and more coherent than the real thing and it is essential for survival. However, it can induce the halo effect – the tendency to generalize and to like everything about a person, including things you have not observed. This can reduce objectivity when evaluating student work. Advice on how to prevent this is offered. |
