| 概要 | This review covers the main topics discussed by the author, a neuroscientist, about why human beings in many cultures use profane language and where such language is processed and stored in the brain. The relief of pain and stress that use of expletives can provide is discussed along with the moral issues of whether the use of taboo language is harmful to people. Although the author feels comfortable using profanity selectively with American university students, there is no discussion of the intersection between use of profanity and gender. This is an aspect of the topic which needs to be researched. |
