概要 In this chapter I suggest that the provision of more specific language teacher training and more opportunities for teacher development would enable the JET Program to develop in a less haphazard way. If Japanese teachers of English (JTEs) and assistant language teachers (ALTs) had basic understanding of how people learn languages and of current ideas on effective ways of aiding the learning process, they would be able to work together far more effectively in adapting existing materials, producing new materials, and developing a team teaching methodology that reflects the more 'communication' oriented approach that Mombusho desires.
