| 概要 | The syllabic nature of the cuneiform script makes it difficult to determine whether consonant clusters are accompanied by empty graphic vowels or real vowels. The 3sg. active preterite endings of the mi-conjugation in Hittite and Cuneiform Luwian, together with the 3p1. active preterite ending in Cuneiform Luwian, present a case of the problem. Synchronic and comparative evidence suggests that the final a of the Hittite 3sg. ending -ta which is taken by the consonantal verb stem is graphic, whereas that of the Cuneiform Luwian preterite 3sg. ending -ta and 3pl. ending -nta is real. |
