| 概要 | This paper outlines a project (funded by the Japanese Ministry of Sport, Science and Education with a Kakenhi JSPS Grant-in-aid for scientific research) which aims to set up a comprehensive graded-reader database that will provide information on books deemed suitable for extensive reading programmes. Ideally, the data should include information on the reading level of each book, the number of words, how much other readers have enjoyed reading it, and its availability. The database should be set up so that automatic updates can be made where possible, and it should give editing rights to a large number of stakeholders so new data can be added and updated. The authors explain both the need for such a database and the challenges in creating it. The issues discussed include: finding a standardized way to measure the number of words in a book and measuring of the readability of a text. |
